The East Petersburg Events Committee will host a special celebration for Independence Day on Saturday, July 2, at the East Petersburg Community Park, 6051 Pine St. The free event will feature live music, a movie showing, and fireworks. Food and beverages will be available for purchase from several vendors.
The event will begin at 6:30 p.m. with a performance by singer/songwriter Duane Slaymaker, who performs a blend of original and cover songs ranging from the Allman Brothers to Warren Zevon.
As dusk falls, attention will turn to the big screen. "Hotel Transylvania 2" will begin playing at 8:30 p.m. The animated film has a run time of 89 minutes and has been rated PG.
At the movie's conclusion, a fireworks display will take place.
Families and individuals are welcome to bring chairs and blankets and make themselves comfortable for the evening's entertainment. The park is spacious, the movie screen is large, and the sound system is powerful, so there are no bad seats.
The Independence Day event is sponsored by the East Petersburg Events Committee, a nonprofit organization run by volunteers whose mission is to host family-friendly events that are of mutual interest to both the visitors and residents of East Petersburg in an effort to strengthen the town by fostering community involvement and spirit.
"This event is always a favorite," said volunteer Jeff McLain. "There is something special about seeing the park filled with neighbors and friends gathered together ... for a night of community and entertainment."
