School To Honor Alumni Athletes

Lancaster Country Day School (LCDS), 725 Hamilton Road, Lancaster, will induct two alumni into its Athletic Hall of Honor in a ceremony at 4:30 p.m. on Saturday, Oct. 15, at the school. The alumni office and athletic department will honor Mary Wismer Porter, Class of 2001, and Alex Blickle, Class of 2011. They both excelled in multiple varsity sports for the Cougars.

Porter played varsity basketball and tennis at LCDS. On the basketball team, she had a career average of 10.8 points per game, in addition to receiving the PIAA Sportsmanship Award and the LCDS Female Athlete of the Year award and twice claiming the team MVP and Offensive awards.

In tennis, Porter posted 12 wins playing singles and doubles, leading LCDS to the 1999 District 3-AA team championship. She went undefeated in 2000 and helped the team advance once again to the District 3 finals. Porter later graduated from Elizabethtown College, where she played basketball for three years. She lives in Lancaster, and her former basketball coach, Gloria Jaremko, will induct Porter into the Hall of Honor.

Blickle lettered in varsity soccer, basketball and baseball at Country Day. He finished his senior season as the team's leading scorer and received the Best Offensive Player award. During his basketball career, Blickle averaged 11.8 points per game and scored more than 1,000 points. Blickle also was part of the 2011 baseball team that made it to the state playoffs. Blickle graduated from Kenyon College, where he played golf and earned honors as a 2014-15 Cleveland Golf/Srixon All-America Scholar. He became a professional golfer in August 2015 and has competed in Florida PGA and GPro Tour events. Blickle will be inducted by former coaches T.J. O'Gorman and Mike Simpson.

The ceremony is part of LCDS' Alumni Weekend, scheduled for Friday, Oct.14, and Oct. 15. A reception will be held immediately following the 4:30 p.m. induction at the school. Several class reunions will also be held on Oct. 15. For a full schedule of events, readers may contact Anne Amman at the alumni office at ammana@lancastercountryday.org or 431-2592.
