The Red Rose Figure Skating Club will present its annual holiday ice show, "Disney Classics," on Saturday, Dec. 3, at 1:30 and 5 p.m. at the Lancaster Ice Rink, 371 Carerra Drive, Lancaster.
The show will highlight a number of Disney characters outside the world of the more famous Disney princesses. The production, the vision of Ursula Wolfer, Red Rose Skating director and former "Disney on Ice" cast member, celebrates the magic of treasured characters from such classics as "Mary Poppins," "Pinocchio," "The Jungle Book," and "101 Dalmatians."
The first act will include a skating tribute to the Magic Kingdom's Main Street Electrical Parade, along with "When You Wish Upon a Star" and large group numbers, duets, and solos from "The Nightmare Before Christmas."
The second act will be entirely dedicated to "Mary Poppins," including songs such as "Supercalifragilisticexpialidocious," "A Spoonful of Sugar," "Step in Time," "Chim Chim Cher-ee," "Feed the Birds," and "Practically Perfect."
The production will display the skills of approximately 40 members of the Red Rose Figure Skating Club and students from the Lancaster Ice Rink's Learn to Skate USA Program. The cast has been rehearsing since early autumn and will showcase jumps from single toeloops to triple salchows and spins from cannonballs to Biellmanns.
Principal cast members of "Disney Classics" include Zoe Dean as Bert, Lily Delle-Levine as Mary Poppins, Chase Donelson as Jack Skellington, Casey Kummer as the Blue Fairy, Makayla Robitaille as Sally, Brooke Palmer as Cruella De Vil, and Katelyn Young as the Bird Lady.
The show will end with an acknowledgement of the contributions of two principal cast members who are high school seniors skating in their final holiday ice show. The Class of 2017 students include Delle-Levine, a student at Lancaster Country Day School, and Kummer, a student at Susquehannock High School in Glen Rock.
