Manheim Santa Run Set For Dec. 2

Area residents are invited to lace up their sneakers and join the fun as hundreds of runners and walkers don Santa Claus suits and make their way through downtown Manheim for the annual Santa Run and Walk 5K on Saturday, Dec. 2. The race is sponsored by the Manheim Lions Club.

Packet pickup for those who registered in advance will take place from 4 to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 30, and Friday, Dec. 1, at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church, 48 Market Square, Manheim. Santa suits, which include a one-size-fits-most jacket, trousers, a hat, a beard, and a belt, along with long-sleeve T-shirts and Santa hats for youths age 14 and under, will be available to those who register while supplies last.

Race-day check-in and registration will be open from 6:30 to 8 a.m. at Trinity Evangelical Congregational Church. Separate registration fees have been set for adults and for youths. Strollers are welcome.

Participants will step off at 8:30 a.m. from Market Square in Manheim to follow a course that goes along Charlotte Street through several neighborhoods, past Logan Field, and back to Market Square. Manheim Lions Club member Nancy Husser described the course as flat with some inclines. A race route map is available at http://www.manheimlions.org.

Chip timing and mile markers will be provided, and a water station will be positioned at the halfway point.

After crossing the finish line, participants will receive complimentary chocolate milk from a local dairy business. Water and other goodies will also be available.

A disc jockey will play Christmas music to add to the festivities, and an interactive photo booth will be set up by a local business for runners and spectators to enjoy.

Trophies and gift cards will be awarded to the top overall male and female finishers, with awards also given to the top finishers in each age category.

Proceeds from the race will benefit the Manheim Lions Club's projects in the Manheim community. Husser noted that participants are encouraged to bring a new, unwrapped toy suitable for a child or teenager age 15 or under for the Toys for Tots collection.
