Local Blood Drives Slated April 28, 2017

Lancaster General Health sponsors community blood drives each month throughout Lancaster County. Blood donors must be age 16 or older and weigh at least 110 pounds. Blood that is collected stays in Lancaster County to benefit members of the community. No appointments are needed; however, all donors will be asked to present picture identification when they arrive to donate at all LGH blood drives.

Dates and locations of upcoming blood drives are as follows: Wednesday, May 3, Elizabethtown Area High School, 600 E. High St., Elizabethtown, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Thursday, May 4, Grace United Methodist Church, 153 W. Frederick St., Millersville, 2 to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, May 9, Conestoga Valley High School, 2110 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster, 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.; Wednesday, May 10, Bird-in-Hand Fire Company, 313 Enterprise Road, Bird-in-Hand, 2 to 7 p.m.; Thursday, May 11, Wrightsdale Baptist Church, 310 Little Britain Road, Peach Bottom, 2 to 7 p.m.; Tuesday, May 16, Lancaster Country Day School, 725 Hamilton Road, Lancaster, 10 a.m. to 2:30 p.m.; Wednesday, May 17, Lancaster General Hospital, 555 N. Community members may also schedule appointments to donate at the Lancaster General Health Blood Donor Center in the Suburban Pavilion, 2104 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster, by calling 544-0170 and choosing option 1 or visiting www.lancastergeneralhealth.org/blood. The center's hours are Mondays from 10 a.m. to 7:30 p.m., Tuesdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., Wednesdays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m., Thursdays from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m., and Fridays from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m.

Community Blood Drives Posted April 11, 2017

Lancaster General (LG) Health has announced its April community blood drives. Donation takes approximately 30 minutes.

Blood drives will be held on the following dates: Wednesday, April 19, St Peter's Lutheran Church, 10 Delp Road, Lancaster, from 2 to 7 p.m.; Thursday, April 20, Lancaster General Hospital, 555 N Duke St., Lancaster, from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Tuesday, April 25, Lancaster Campus of HACC, 1641 Old Philadelphia Pike, Lancaster, from 10 a.m. to 3p.m.; Wednesday, April 26, Kinzer Fire Company, 3521 Lincoln Highway East (Route 30), Kinzers, from 2 to 7p.m.; and Thursday, April 27, Intercourse Fire Company, 10 N. Hollander Road, Intercourse, from 2 to 7 p.m.

Food Drive, Blood Drive Announced March 29, 2017

The third Feed the Need Food Drive and a community blood drive have been announced.

During the past two food drives, Feed the Need has provided more than 5,000 pounds of food to Water Street Mission at a time when the holiday food drive donations begin to run out. This year, proponents hope to donate another 3,000 pounds of food or more to the mission. Community members may drop off food items during normal business hours at any HARTZ Physical Therapy office, including locations at 100 Highlands Drive, Suite 100, Lititz; 90 Good Drive, Suite 201, Lancaster; and 1635 W. Main St., Suite 500, Ephrata. Water Street Mission will use the food to serve free meals and provide free pantry items to men, women, and children in need.

A community blood drive will take place on Tuesday, April 11, at HARTZ Physical Therapy, 100 Highlands Drive, Suite 100, Lititz, from 2 to 6 p.m. Donations will be used to stock the Lancaster Blood Bank. Blood Drive Scheduled March 29, 2017

Fairmount Homes Retirement Community in Ephrata will be the site of a community blood drive on Thursday, April 13, from 11:30 a.m. to 6:30 p.m. The blood drive will be held in the Farm Crest Community Room at 1100 Farm Crest Drive on the east side of the Fairmount campus.

To schedule an appointment, readers may call 800-771-0059. Walk-ins will be welcome until 6 p.m. Donors should bring identification with them. All donors will receive restaurant coupons and a T-shirt.

Student Plans Blood Drive February 15, 2017

Columbia High School, 901 Ironville Pike, will be the site of a community blood drive from 2:30 to 6 p.m. on Tuesday, Feb. 28. It will be open to students and staff beginning at 1 p.m. The blood drive will take place in the gymnasium and is available to people age 18 and up.

Members of the community do not need to sign up, as walk-ins will be welcome. Students and staff of the district must sign up and will have a predetermined time.

The blood drive is being organized by Columbia High School student Cameron Melbert for his graduation project.

Lancaster General (LG) Health has announced its January community blood drives.

Blood reserves and the number of blood donations typically drop significantly during the winter holidays. Due to this trend, the LG Health Blood Donor Center will offer a special thank-you gift to all blood donors through Tuesday, Jan. 31.

Blood drives will be held on the following dates: Wednesday, Jan. 18, at Conestoga Valley Church of Christ, 2045 Horseshoe Road, Lancaster, from 2 to 7 p.m.; Thursday, Jan. 19, at Yoder's Market, 14 S. Tower Road, New Holland, from 2 to 7 p.m.; Wednesday, Jan. 25, at Lancaster General Hospital, 555 N. Duke St., Lancaster, on the third-floor balcony adjacent to James Street from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.; Thursday, Jan. 26, LG Health Burle Industries, Building 12A, 1040 New Holland Pike, Lancaster, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m.; and Tuesday, Jan. 31, at Brethren Village Community, Wolfe Auditorium, 3001 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.
