Foundation Awards Grants

Lower Dauphin Falcon Foundation (LDFF) has been helping teachers, community members and students for more than 13 years by providing grants for projects and educational materials that directly benefit Lower Dauphin (LD) students. During the pandemic, LDFF has continued to operate, accepting applications during three cycles and approving and funding numerous grants.

Kid2Kid Clothing Bank has launched through the efforts of Kevin Deibler and his team of volunteers and students at the Price School. This project helps LD students and families in need.

Erin Kelly, elementary school counselor, brought Crayola's Colors of the World skin-tone crayons to LD elementary schools. Each classroom in the district now has these crayons.

Shannon Engle, LD Middle School reading and 21st-century skills teacher, is using Membean, an online vocabulary program, to help her students improve their reading and vocabulary skills.

At last year's LDFF Falcon Fling, Nancy Kiscadden, LD High School, was awarded an LDFF grant for her efforts with science, technology, engineering, art and mathematics (STEAM) in the classroom. She used her funds to purchase Micro:bits, which were used in her Cryptography and Cyber Security curriculum.

Mrs. Cangialosi, a second-grade teacher in East Hanover Elementary, used her STEAM grant from last year to purchase several Snap Circuit kits. These kits contain circuits, light bulbs, sirens, wires and fans, along with an instruction manual.

Mr. Fox, technology education, LD Middle School, used his LDFF STEAM grant from last year to purchase more filament for his 3D printer. The grant enabled him to remove some of the sizing constraints experienced in prior classes.

Mr. Weary at Londonderry Elementary used his grant to purchase the Finch Robot 2.0 to provide his fourth-grade students with hands-on opportunities to work with robotics and programming.

An LDFF grant has recently been awarded to an Eagle Scout who is working with LD's Falcon Packs food collection program to update and build more collection boxes. A grant has also been given to Craig Cassel at LD High School, who is working with students on a STEM Greenhouse and Gardening Club program run by high school students; the program is designed to benefit kindergarten through 12th-grade students.
