Hancock Wins Award

The Veterans of Foreign Wars (VFW) Department of Pennsylvania recently announced that retired Col. Frank Hancock was selected as the Pennsylvania Citizenship Education Teacher for grades nine through 12 for 2016-17.

The James A. Danner VFW Post 537 in Etters nominated Hancock for the award. In addition to the Certificate of Award from the VFW Department of Pennsylvania, a $250 grant was extended to the Cedar Cliff Junior Reserve Officer Training Corps (JROTC) and a matching gift went to Hancock, who serves as the JROTC Senior Army Instructor at Cedar Cliff High School.

During his tenure, more than a dozen cadets have attended the nation's five service academies and gone on to serve their country.

Post 537 is accepting nominations from the community for teachers in kindergarten through grade 12 for the 2017-18 year. Such nominees are teachers who care about America, its children, and the perpetuation of its traditions and ideals, fostering the development of democratic values and beliefs through special projects.
