The community is invited to a free Christmas concert hosted by the Leola MOMS program at Forest Hills Mennonite Church, 100 Quarry Road, Leola, on Friday, Dec. 7, at 6:30 p.m. Joseph Jaskolka and Laura Hershey will perform piano and vocal music, including Christmas music. The congregation will also be invited to join in the singing of carols.
Since graduation from Millersville University, Hershey has taught general music and chorus to students in several area schools. She currently teaches private piano lessons and enjoys singing and playing the piano for church services, weddings, musicals, and concerts. Jaskolka has been playing piano with worship teams for 30 years, including 15 years at Groffdale Mennonite Church. The concert will also feature some of the children who attend the Leola MOMS program sharing special music.
People of all ages are invited to enjoy refreshments, including fresh Christmas cookies, while listening to the music. The event will include a Christmas cookie fundraiser. Christmas cookies will be available to purchase on plates, in cookie jars, or as frozen dough logs. There is a fee per item, and sales will benefit the Leola MOMS program.
Leola MOMS, a group of women from more than 20 different local congregations and communities, has met together for more than 40 years to provide fellowship and encouragement for women in the local community. Leola MOMS also provides programs for children from birth through kindergarten. Teachers present a specific curriculum each week to give the children a preschool experience. This year's curriculum covers learning the alphabet. The group meets at Forest Hills Mennonite Church from 9:30 a.m. to 11 a.m. on Tuesday mornings in September through April. Readers may visit the Leola MOMS Facebook page to learn how to participate in the group. For more information, readers may call the church office at 717-656-6227.
