The Appell Center, 50 N. George St., York, will present its new, monthly Black Film Series, a series of films that celebrate the culture of the African-American and black communities, in the Capitol Theatre. The Appell Center has partnered with local African-American and black community leaders to curate a film series designed to welcome and engage York's diverse community.
The film series will kick off with a double feature event on Friday, March 15, with "The Wiz" at 6:30 p.m., directly followed by "Dreamgirls" at 9 p.m. After the initial double feature kickoff event, the series will continue to show one feature film each month, including classics such as "Do the Right Thing," "Love and Basketball," "Claudine," "Southside With You," "Shaft," and a First Friday family film screening of "Akeelah and the Bee."
There is a cost per ticket. Students with ID and children under age 12 may attend for free. Children age 12 and under need to be accompanied by an adult.
Film tickets can be purchased in advance at http://www.appellcenter.org or by calling the Appell Center box office at 717-846-1111. Tickets are also available for purchase at the box office 30 minutes prior to each film. Snacks and refreshments are available for purchase and can be brought into the theater.
