Lucas Schall of Manheim Township High School has been selected as the winner of the Lancaster Optimist Club's Oratorical Contest. After winning on the local club level, he participated on the district level in Reading and placed first again, winning a $2,500 scholarship.
On June 15 and 16, he was slated to travel to the Optimist International headquarters in St. Louis, Mo., to vie for additional scholarships of $5,000 and $20,000. Lucas is the son of Andrew and Deanna Schall of Lancaster.
Beginning in the fall, notification of the contest will be sent to all public and private schools in Lancaster County with an application and information for those who may want to participate. The contest is open to any high school student who will be under the age of 18 as of Sunday, Oct. 1.
