Something Old And Something New

Boettcher House To Conclude Concert Season

At the end of July, organizers of the Boettcher House concert series were happy to kick off a full season of concerts, once again providing music under the trees on summer evenings.

As in the past, the events are being held in Landis Woods at 2369 Lititz Pike, Lancaster. Upcoming concerts will include The Liminal Space, a new band that formed during the quarantine, on Saturday, Aug. 28, at 5:30 p.m., and the Bell Bottoms, a band that specializes in the music of bygone eras, on Sunday, Sept. 12, at 5:30 p.m. Attendees are encouraged to bring folding chairs and blankets.

The Liminal Space is a project bringing together pianist Andy Roberts and soprano Sarah Zahn. According to Zahn, the goal was to find a space that is stylistically "between genres." With each musician wanting to remain true to his or her own unique musical style, the pair found a way to rest between both in the liminal space. The duo's music reimagines classic pop and rock music for soprano, classical strings, and jazz piano. Cellist Laurie Reese and violinist Naomi Main add depth to a musical repertoire that is meant to sound both familiar and completely new. Roberts and Zahn created the sound by exploring the idea during the time when COVID-19 restrictions left many feeling suspended in time.

The Bell Bottoms will return to Landis Woods with the band's special take on the music of the 1960s and '70s. Individuals in the five-member band will take turns uncovering the stories behind the beloved songs of those two distinctive decades. To enhance the entertainment feature, the band will include television show theme songs, along the way revealing that the theme song of "Bonanza" had lyrics. Attendees may hear the music of Ray Charles, Little Eva, Patsy Cline, Allan Sherman, Linda Ronstadt, Randy Newman, and many more. Raught invites area residents to "come on out and dig the groove scene together," adding, "It will be far out."
