Library will hold book sale

For six days, the community room in the lower level of the Elizabethtown Public Library will be overflowing with books for a bargain when the Friends of the Elizabethtown Public Library hold their fall book sale.

The sale will begin with a special event on Tuesday, Aug. 29, from 2 to 7 p.m. at the library, 10 S. Market St. Admission to that event is for Friends members or by a small fee, said organizer Laurie Shaffer.

The sale will continue with free admission from 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Tuesday, Sept. 5; 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Wednesday, Sept. 6; 9 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Thursday, Sept. 7; 9 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Friday, Sept. 8; and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. on Saturday, Sept. 9.

"We have all different categories of books," said Shaffer. Categories will include adult hardback fiction, trade paperback fiction, regular paperback fiction, nonfiction, history, cookbooks and children's books. DVDs and CDs will also be for sale.

"Everything is priced to sell," Shaffer noted.

The Friends hold two sales a year - one in the spring and one in the fall. In the past, the spring sale was limited to just a few categories of books, but the response from the public to the sale was so great, the group decided to expand both sales to include all categories.

The book sale helps the Friends group fulfill its mission to support the library. "All proceeds go directly to the library to fund their programming," Shaffer said.

The Friends group accepts donations for the book sale year-round, and volunteers also sort books year-round. The group is always looking for new members, who can sign up at the library or during the book sale. The Friends offer individual and family memberships.

Shaffer invites everyone to come out and come shopping for books. "We really have something for everyone," she said.

Entrance to the library is from the back of the building, accessible from Peach Alley, where a free parking lot is available. Customers are encouraged to bring their own bags or boxes.
