Art Association Is Hosting Classes

As Eddie Cochran sang, "There ain't no cure for the summertime blues," but Patricia Keller stated that the Lancaster County Art Association (LCAA) has a remedy for the "winter blahs."

The LCAA, located at 149 Precision Ave., Strasburg, will hold a variety of classes for both experienced and aspiring artists. There is a fee for the classes; LCAA members will receive a discount.

Participants must register, with the deadline a week before the particular class is slated to start. Anyone who does not register a week in advance but wishes to take the class can call the LCAA at 717-687-7061 to find out if there is space available. To register, go to http://www.lcaaonline.org.

"A lot of people have always wanted to take an art class to expand on their talents," Keller said. "Here's a chance to do that. A lot of these are beginner (courses), and it really can be a good way for someone who is experienced to refresh or to just get motivated again. It's always nice to take a class and sort of see a different perspective from a different artist."

Passion for Pastels with instructor Dot Stepenaski will be held on Thursdays, Feb. 5 through March 12, from 9 a.m. to noon.

Canvas Stretching Workshop, taught by gallery director Carol Herr, will be held Saturday, Feb. 7, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The LCAA's Winter Membership Show will run through Thursday, Feb. 19. Works by LCAA members will be spotlighted, and pieces by former LCAA president Henrietta Holton-Thomas will be featured in the Steinmetz Gallery. Admission is free.

The LCAA will also host a "Save the Green" used art and craft supply sale during business hours from Saturday, Feb. 28, to Sunday, March 15. The gallery is open Thursdays through Saturdays from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m. and Sundays from 1 to 4 p.m.
