Children's choirs to present concerts

The Mennonite Children's Choir of Lancaster (MCCL) has announced its spring concert series, "Morning & Evening: Songs for the Everyday." The performers are children and youths in grades two through 12.

The MCCL choirs will perform at Neffsville Mennonite Church, 2371 Lititz Pike, Lancaster, on Tuesday, April 29, at 7 p.m.; Saturday, May 3, at 4 p.m.; and Sunday, May 4, at 4 p.m. The season will conclude with a concert on Sunday, June 8, at 7 p.m. at Mount Gretna Tabernacle, Third Street and Glossbrenner Avenue, Mount Gretna.

The programs will feature music focused on the presence of God in day-to-day life, from the Georgia Sea Islands spiritual "Yonder Come Day" to Tallis' night-time prayer, "Glory to Thee, My God, This Night." Other selections will include Dan Forrest's "Cry No More" and Keith Hampton's "Celebrate!" as well as music featuring texts from the book of Psalms. The repertoire will include a range of works from modern compositions by composers from Nigeria and Argentina to centuries-old music by Bach and Handel.

MCCL is a community choral arts program serving more than 160 children and youths from kindergarten through grade 12. Current members represent 55 congregations, 45 schools, and 15 denominations. MCCL's goal is to train singers to glorify Jesus Christ through excellent choral music while fostering character and community. MCCL views music as a gift from God and seeks to equip children and youths for a lifetime of worship and service to the church and community through Christ-centered repertoire that reflects the musical diversity of the church around the world and through time.

The performing choirs, for those in grades two through 12, are led by artistic director Rosemary Siegrist Blessing and directors Sarah Wingard and Galen Kauffman. The classes, for those in kindergarten through grade 12, are led by directors Monica Carlson and Sarah Smith. MCCL is a program of Lancaster Mennonite School, serving children and youths from Lancaster, Chester, York, and Berks counties.
