Library Plans August Activities

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming in August. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

The library will be closed on Thursday, Aug. 27, from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m.

The W Donuts food truck will be on-site at the library on Thursday, Aug. 6, from 10 a.m. to noon. The Traveling J's food truck, offering Middle Eastern cuisine, will be at the library on Thursday, Aug. 13, from 5 to 7 p.m.

Gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library from Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

Programs for children and families will include Wiggle & Giggle Story Time, Monday, Aug. 10, at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 6 months through 2 years; Preschool Pals on Tuesday, Aug. 11, at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 3 to 6; and Family Story Time With Miss Alyssa Wednesdays, Aug. 5 and 12, at 10:30 a.m.

Brain Bites will be held at noon on Aug. 11. Families may bring their lunches and enjoy challenges such as guessing games.

The library will host Lego Challenge on Aug. 11 at 6 p.m. Each family will receive a box of Lego bricks that they must use to create something based on an assigned theme.

So You Want to Raise Butterflies will be held on Aug. 6 at 10:30 a.m. for people of all ages.

Storybook Science will take place on Aug. 13 at 2:30 p.m. The program is for people age 3 and up. It will explore classic stories through simple experiments and activities.

A Snuggle Up Story Time will be held on Aug. 13 at 6 p.m. Children may wear their pajamas and bring a blanket and stuffed animal. The theme will be "Firefly Wishes."

Wee Build Free Build will take place on Aug. 6 at 2 p.m. The library will have creative building sets for families to use for unstructured play and building.

A Family Movie Party will be held on Aug. 6 at 6 p.m. The movie will be "The Good Dinosaur," and popcorn will be provided.

Under the Sea Family Story Time will take place on Saturday, Aug. 8, at 10 a.m.

The library will hold its End of Summer Celebration for the Summer Reading Program on Saturday, Aug. 15, from 10 a.m. to noon. Activities will include indoor mini golf, games, and The Balunguy. Those who would like to play mini golf must register at the front desk and pay a fee for each group; all other activities are free. Summer Reading packets must be turned in by Aug. 15 to be eligible for prizes. The library will be closed for regular services on this day.

Teen D&D will meet on Saturday, Aug. 22, from 1 to 4 p.m. Those interested in joining should contact Laura Bear at lbear@mslibrary.org.

Activities for adults will include Closely Knit, a program for knitters and crocheters, on Mondays, Aug. 10 and 24, at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; Adult Game Night, Wednesdays, Aug. 5 and 19, at 5 p.m.; Adult Book Bingo, Aug. 19 at 2 p.m.; Easy Writer Club on Aug. 19 at 6:30 p.m., with no registration required; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club, Aug. 22 at 9:15 a.m.; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers, Tuesday, Aug. 25, at 6:30 p.m., with the topic of "A Walk in the Woods" by Bill Bryson.

The Friends of the Library will meet on Aug. 10 at 6:30 p.m.
