Library Plans June Activities

Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, will offer a variety of programming in May. All programs are free, unless stated otherwise, and require preregistration. For more information and to register, visit http://www.mslibrary.org or call 717-653-1510.

Food trucks will be on-site at the library on select dates. The dates and trucks will be Thursday, June 4, W Donuts from 10 a.m. to noon and Spud Muffin and Cupcakes by Casey from 5 to 7 p.m.; Saturday, June 6, the Eggroll Lady from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m.; Tuesday, June 16, Taco RV, with times to be announced; and Thursday, June 18, Traveling J's from 5 to 7 p.m. More details will be posted at the aforementioned website and on social media.

The Friends of Milanof-Schock Library will hold their annual used book sale at Donegal High School, 1025 Koser Road, Mount Joy, from Thursday to Saturday, June 18 to 20. For more details, search for "Friends of Milanof-Schock Library" on Facebook.

The library will not receive book donations from Wednesday, June 10, through Thursday, June 25. Outside of that date range, gently used books and media can be donated to the self-service shed behind the library from Mondays through Thursdays from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. and on Saturdays from 9 a.m. to noon.

The library will hold a Summer Reading Kickoff event on June 6 from 9 a.m. to noon. Attendees may participate in activities, pick up reading logs, sign up for summer programs, and purchase food from the Eggroll Lady.

Programs for children and families will include Wiggle & Giggle Story Time, Mondays, June 8 and 22, at 10:30 a.m. and Saturday, June 27, at 10:30 a.m. for children ages 6 months through 2 years; Preschool Pals on Tuesdays, June 9 and 23, at 10:30 a.m. for kids ages 3 to 6; Family Story Time with Miss Alyssa, June 10 at 10:30 a.m.; and Parachute Play on Monday, June 15, at 10:30 a.m. for kids ages 3 to 5 with a caregiver.

Brain Bites will be held at noon on Tuesdays from June 9 to 30. Families may bring their lunches and enjoy challenges such as guessing games and hands-on puzzles.

The library will host Lego Challenge on June 9 at 6 p.m. Each family will receive a box of Lego bricks that they must use to create something based on an assigned theme.

The library will offer two programs about occupations. So You Want to Be a Fish and Game Commissioner will be held on Thursday, June 11, at 10:30 a.m. It is open to people of all ages. So You Want to Be a Voice Actor will be offered on June 18 at 10:30 a.m. for people age 3 and up.

Storybook Science will take place on June 11 at 2:30 p.m. The program is for people age 3 and up. It will explore classic stories through simple experiments and activities.

A Snuggle Up Story Time will be held on June 11 at 6 p.m. Children may wear their pajamas and bring a blanket and stuffed animal. The theme will be "Stargazing Snuggles."

Dads and Donuts will be held on Saturday, June 13, at 10 a.m. It will feature crafts, stories, and sweet treats.

Lancaster Science Factory will present "Classifying Dinosaurs" on June 16 at 10:30 a.m. for children in kindergarten through fifth grade. Through classification activities, students will learn how scientists organize living things and identify relationships between species.

The library will hold a field day on June 16 at 3 p.m. for people age 5 and up. The event will include relay races, water-based activities, and other high-energy games. In the case of inclement weather, the program will be canceled.

Fun Family Book Bingo will take place on June 16 at 6 p.m. Books will be awarded as prizes.

Raven Ridge Wildlife Rescue will present "Native Pennsylvania Wildlife" on Wednesday, June 17, at 10:30 a.m. for people age 3 and up. Featuring animal ambassadors, the program will be an introduction to wildlife native to Pennsylvania and the Mid-Atlantic region.

Cozy Clubhouse, for kids age 5 and up, will be held on June 18 at 2:30 p.m. It will include stories, crafts, and more.

The library will host a Bubble Party on June 20 at 1 p.m. for people of all ages. Children may design their own bubble wands and experiment with all kinds of bubbles. Bubble solution and extra wands will be provided for everyone to enjoy. The program will be outdoors, and in the case of inclement weather, it will be canceled.

Miss B. and her retired show dog, Blaze, will visit the library on Wednesday, June 24, at 10:30 a.m. Blaze will demonstrate commands, and Miss B. will share a story about show dogs and talk about participating in dog shows. Blaze is also certified with Keystone Pet Enhanced Therapy Services (KPETS).

The Railroad Museum of Pennsylvania will present "Stegosaurus Steam" on June 25 at 10:30 a.m. It is open to students in kindergarten through fifth grade. Kids will interact with fossils and coal, and they will learn how the two make a steam engine run.

Teen Art Night will be held on June 25 at 6 p.m. Attendees may make a craft, eat snacks, and socialize.

Teen D&D will meet on June 27 at 1 p.m. Those interested in joining should contact Laura Bear at lbear@mslibrary.org.

Community members may decorate the library's sidewalks with chalk art on Monday, June 29, from 10 a.m. to noon. In the case of inclement weather, the program will be canceled.

A presentation about the Wolf Sanctuary of Pennsylvania will be offered on June 30 at 10:30 a.m.

Coloring Club will be held on June 30 at 2 p.m. The library will provide all coloring sheets and other materials.

Activities for adults will include Closely Knit, a program for knitters and crocheters, on June 8 and 22 at 1 p.m., with no registration necessary; Adult Game Night, Wednesdays, June 3 and 17, at 5 p.m.; Adult Book Bingo, June 17 at 2 p.m.; Easy Writer Club on June 17 at 6:30 p.m., with no registration required; Joyful Stitchers Cross-Stitch Club, June 20 at 9:15 a.m.; and Book Discussion Group - Lit Lovers, June 23 at 6:30 p.m., with the topic of "Remarkably Bright Creatures" by Shelby Van Pelt.

Adults may participate in the Summer Reading Program. Beginning on June 6, they may pick up a "Bookopoly" sheet at the library. The program will include a weekly prize drawing, as well as a grand prize at the end of summer.

The Friends of the Library will meet on June 8 at 6:30 p.m.

The library will host Puzzles and Podcasts on June 15 at 6 p.m. for people age 18 and up. People will work on the puzzles while listening to two episodes of the true crime podcast "Criminal." Attendees may bring their own puzzle or choose one from the library's puzzle swap. Attendees may also bring snacks and covered drinks.

Two Make-It Monday events will take place in June. Both programs are open to people age 18 and up, and all supplies will be provided. On Monday, June 22, at 6 p.m., attendees may learn basic embroidery stitches and techniques as they create an item to take home. On Monday, June 29, at 6 p.m., attendees may learn simple knotting techniques and create a macrame plant hanger to take home.

Library staff member Megan will give a presentation on Wednesday, June 24, at 6 p.m. Megan will share highlights from her year living in Scotland, and guests may enjoy light Scottish-inspired refreshments.
