Light & Legacy, a nonprofit based in Chester County, will host its inaugural Picnic With a Purpose on Saturday, Aug. 1, from 3 to 7 p.m. at the Christiana Lions Club pavilion, 325 N. Bridge St., Christiana. The family-friendly event is free and open to the community, and its purpose is to raise awareness and support for Light & Legacy's mission in San Antonio de Fao, Dominican Republic.

The event will include a cookout and the option to purchase refreshments from a water ice truck from 3:30 to 5 p.m. It will also feature lawn games and music. Giveaway drawings will take place at 6 p.m., and participants must be present to win.

Light & Legacy was founded by Megan Georgia along with her husband, Otoniel Georgia, who grew up in San Antonio de Fao. The Georgias' goal is to create opportunities for children and families through youth discipleship, education, life skills training, and community outreach. Light & Legacy is currently raising funds to build a youth and community center.
