Rotary Club honors Students of the Month

Paradise Rotary Club recognized its Students of the Month for January on Jan. 4. The honorees are Cheyenne Plank from Conestoga Valley High School, Josh Lucas-Towers from Lancaster Mennonite High School and Madeline Heverin from Pequea Valley High School. All three are juniors.

Cheyenne is the daughter of Ashleigh Plank of Leola. She is an honors student and a member of the National Honor Society, the track and field and swim teams, yearbook club, Math Honor Society, Link Crew and choir. She earned the Coach's Award for swimming in 2022, varsity letters in swimming in ninth and 10th grades, a varsity letter in track in 10th grade, and the Athletic and Coach's Award in 2022 for summer swim team. She is involved with the Conestoga Valley Aquabucks, the Five Star Swim Club, Relay For Life of Berks, Caitlin's Smiles and bingo events.

Josh, the son of Marcia Towers and Midge Lucas of Lancaster, is a member of NHS. He is a two-year member of the varsity track and field team, participating in shot put; he also served as a co-captain in the spring of 2023. He hosted a German exchange student and, later that year, a Mennonite Central Committee (MCC) IVEP volunteer. He serves as a leader in his youth group at Community Mennonite Church of Lancaster. With the youth group, he participated in a week of service, which involved donating time to local nonprofits like the Lancaster County Food Hub, MCC material resource center, and Whipple Farm as well as completing small projects around the church. He also contributed items and volunteer time to a free yard sale that his church arranged to give low-income community members access to essential items like clothing. This past summer, Josh went on a mission trip with Highland Presbyterian Church to the Reformed Church in El Salvador, which has a longtime partnership with Highland. During the trip, Josh visited a school sponsored by the churches.

Madeline is the daughter of Frank and Shannon Heverin of Kinzers. She is a drum major in the marching band, secretary of the Chamber Singers and the librarian for the symphonic band, as well as a member of National Honor Society, the Spring Fling committee, the Mini-THON committee, choir, jazz band and Caroleers. She participates in the spring musical and fall play. Madeline was named to the LLMEA County Choir and Band, PMEA District Choir, and ACDA Eastern Region Choir. She has been named to the honor roll and received various music accolades and a citizenship award.
