The Trust Sets Jazz Concert

New Jazz Underground will perform at 7 p.m. on Saturday, March 14, at The Trust Performing Arts Center, 37 N. Market St., Lancaster.

New Jazz Underground's music merges traditional sensibilities of jazz with the modern influence of swing, hip-hop and Afro-Cuban music. The trio consists of saxophonist and composer Abdias Armenteros, bassist and composer Sebastian Rios, and drummer TJ Reddick. After meeting as students at The Juilliard School, the trio played in the parks of New York City during lockdown in 2020 and then began posting to its YouTube channel, now with 115,000 subscribers.

The 2023 DCJazzPrix winner, New Jazz Underground members have performed with the Lincoln Center Orchestra, Jon Batiste, Sullivan Fortner, and Emmet Cohen, as well as on NPR Music. The trio also boasts composition and production skills across a variety of mediums and has a keen interest in helping students develop a deeper understanding of jazz music and the elements surrounding the creative process. Armenteros, Rios, and Reddick each has a student studio as well as years of experience teaching students from middle school through college in topics such as jazz history, theory, and application.
