Lancaster British Brass Band Exudes Class

Brass instruments make their own distinct sounds. They are crisp sounds that the Lancaster British Brass Band (LBBB) blends and harmonizes.

LBBB is headlining the next installment of the Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd's Fine Arts Series.

Doug Albert is one of the talented musicians who make up LBBB, and he's also a chair for Good Shepherd's Fine Arts Series.

"Because Lancaster British Brass Band has performed multiple times at Good Shepherd, the vibe will be electric," said Albert. "The audience expects exciting brass band music, but also lots of banter and humor throughout."

LBBB will present its special brand of music in concert at 4 p.m. on Sunday, May 31, at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd, 750 Greenfield Road, Lancaster. The concert is free to attend, and everyone is welcome.

"I can only speak for myself, but brass band music makes me feel alive," said Albert. "Even as a performer in the LBBB, I experience the many emotions that remind me that I'm alive and grateful."

The concert will entertain the audience with some well-known selections, as well as some musical surprises. Among the pieces expected to be performed are the always moving "Ave Maria," the big band sound of "Trumpet Blues and Cantabile," and Queen's "Bohemian Rhapsody."

"I believe the sense of hearing music is a unique gift from God, and it's very personal to each of us," said Albert. "I love to watch performers as they give their all for the ultimate goal of creating beauty in a world that needs beauty."

LBBB is made up of more than 30 talented musical artists who hail from Lancaster County, other areas of Pennsylvania, Maryland, Delaware and New Jersey. Directed by Dr. Tina DiMeglio, the band's members have experience as soloists, ensemble performers and music teachers.

"LBBB is a known quantity to this audience, so folks who love our music sit as close as possible to the players," said Albert. "In some cases, we are less than a foot away from the folks in the front pew. Also, the softs and loads are extreme in this wonderful space."

LBBB was formed 22 years ago.

"LBBB and the other artists in the series share a love for performing," said Albert. "Musicians love it when our audiences are having a blast, and it will be quite evident at this specific LBBB performance."

For more than three decades, Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd has connected to the community through music and its Fine Arts Series. Among the series' upcoming performances is the Celtic-Americana band Rizzetta's Tones at 4 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 27.

"Our church is serving the Lancaster community," concluded Albert. "The world is full of conflict and anxiety right now, and if we can bring two hours of smiles, foot tapping and fun to our fellow humans, then our Fine Arts Series has served its purpose. These concerts are an important part of our shared life at Lutheran Church of the Good Shepherd."
