Club to Dedicate Bench in Honor of Mayor

The Parkesburg Lions Club will dedicate its next bench to Parkesburg Mayor John P. Hagan II during a brief ceremony on Saturday, June 6, at 1 p.m. at the Parkesburg Police Station, 315 W. First Ave., Building 2, Parkesburg.

The bench was obtained through the Lions Club's participation in a program of the Trex Company, in which the club collects plastics from the community and earns benches. So far, the Lions Club has funded six benches in the Parkesburg community, each of which is dedicated to a specific community member.

Hagan has lived in Parkesburg since shortly after turning 1 year old, and he graduated from Octorara Area School District in 1969. In 1991, he learned of a vacancy on the Parkesburg Borough Council. He applied and was appointed to fill the unexpired term of council member Don Althouse. Hagan then ran for this seat and won it in November 1991. He served for 10 years on the borough council in multiple capacities, such as chair of the sewer, streets, and police committees. He was borough council vice president for two years. In 2001, he ran for and won the position of mayor, which he has held since that time. He was most recently re-elected in November 2025.

The Parkesburg Lions Club noted that Hagan is known as a well-spoken and kind man who loves Parkesburg, and that he has been an avid supporter of the Lions Club's efforts to serve the community. He can often be spotted walking through town wearing a distinctive hat.
