Garden Tour Planned in Columbia

Art in the Gardens, a garden tour in Columbia, will be held on Saturday, June 13, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. The tour will return under the coordination of Create Columbia, a local nonprofit organization that promotes Columbia as a creative and vital community. The annual garden tour blends the artistry of several local gardeners with the talents of a variety of artists who have each been assigned to one of the venues.

Each of the stops will host at least one artist working en plein air. Acrylics, oils, collages, and more will be produced during the tour. The artists tentatively scheduled to participate include Peg Donnan, Kim Morrow, musician Christopher Prestia, Bill Clark, Joan Inman, and Janette Toth-Musser.

In addition, this year's tour will feature presentations on various aspects of the art of gardening. Each topic will be featured twice during the tour to allow participants flexibility in planning their day. All sessions will be informal and will allow opportunities to ask questions. The talks will be "Creating an Edible Garden," by Grace Julian; "Photography in Your Garden," by local photographer John Reitzel; "Native Plantings," with Kelsey Frey; and "Arranging Cut Flowers," with the staff from Jane's Flower Shoppe.

Tour tickets may be prepurchased at discounted price through Thursday, June 11, by calling 223-246-7271. Prepurchased tickets must be paid for at the time of order using a credit card or Venmo or by mailing a check if time allows. Reserved tickets will be available in the Columbia Market House at the start of the tour on June 13. Tour tickets will be available for purchase at full price on the tour date at the Historic Columbia Market House from 9:30 a.m. to 1:30 p.m.

Art in the Gardens is made possible through the support of local organizations and businesses. Funds raised will benefit Create Columbia's scholarship program to encourage education in the arts.
