Please Welcome Chris Krichten

Chris Krichten is bright, experienced and conscientious. But perhaps the biggest thing he's got going for him is that he conducts himself as a true professional.

Krichten is the kind of employee Manheim Township residents want working for them.

"I have spent my entire adult life in the fire services and most of that time in EMS (emergency medical services)," said Krichten. "I have served in numerous fire and EMS leadership roles and bring extensive experience leading large and complex organizations. I hope people see that I am a dedicated servant leader who is committed to serving the community and leading a team that will provide excellent service to Manheim Township."

Krichten is one of the newest employees of Manheim Township Fire Rescue (MTFR). He's been in his new role as assistant fire chief of EMS, an executive-level officer within MTFR, for about three months now.

While his duties are diverse and varied, one of Krichten's main responsibilities is installing an EMS program.

"In this role, I support daily fire department operations and am currently working to implement a fire-based EMS system within the department," said Krichten. "I respond to emergency calls, support on-scene operations, attend training and assist with overall department leadership. We are implementing the first municipally supported, fire-based EMS service in Lancaster County, which represents a significant step forward in how emergency medical care is delivered to our community."

Previously, EMS services in Manheim Township were provided by an independent third party not affiliated with MTFR. Involved with the process of implementing EMS in the township are strategic planning, staffing models, equipment needs and budgeting.

"EMS is a core service for residents, and Manheim Township has recognized its importance by making this transition," said Krichten. "All Manheim Township firefighters are (certified as emergency medical technicians) and currently respond to high-priority medical calls in fire apparatus. This new service will enhance those capabilities by also providing advanced life support and patient transport under one integrated system."

MTFR is staffed by more than 50 skilled professionals like Krichten. Their work is supported by contributions from more than 20 dedicated volunteers.

Many of those individuals reside in or around the Manheim Township community that they serve.

"I enjoy coming to work and engaging with the incredible team here," said Krichten. "I am humbled by the opportunity to serve this community alongside such dedicated professionals. Manheim Township Fire Rescue supports the community by participating in local events, maintaining an active presence within neighborhoods and engaging with residents on a regular basis."

Krichten is a graduate of Fairfield Area High School.

"Helping others and giving back to the community is extremely important to me, and I find fulfillment in seeing the positive impact our work has on people during critical moments," said Krichten.

MTFR, which is headquartered at 1840 Municipal Drive, Lancaster, operates under the tagline "Teamwork. Service. Respect." In 2024, MTFR responded to 3,458 total calls.
