Lions Club Announces Holiday Contest Winners

The Parkesburg Lions Club recently announced the winners of its annual holiday lights/decorations contest.

The winners included the following: 610 Sixth Ave., first place; 2974 Cemetery Road, second place; and 412 Seventh Ave., third place. There were also four honorable mentions: 811 Sixth Ave.; 10 Western Ave.; 3525 Blackhorse Road; and 91 Walnut Drive.

Judging took place on Dec. 19, when Lions Club members visited all of the homes whose owners had previously registered for the contest. "Members of the Parkesburg Lions Club roamed the Parkesburg area looking at all of the beautiful holiday lighting and decorations in our community," reported Lions Club member Robin McKenna. "It was a difficult task to determine winners. There were several houses in contention this year."

The first-place house featured an assortment of lighted trees and figurines in the front yard, shrubbery lit with twinkle lights and illuminated candy canes, and green and red spotlights on the house itself. The second-place home featured a large star in the front window, as well as Christmas trees fashioned out of lights. Lighted figurines, including a Christmas tree, reindeer and Santa, were featured at the third-place house.

Each first- through third-place winner was presented with a cash prize along with a certificate and decorative yard sign indicating how the home placed in the contest. Signs will be collected to be given to next year's winners.

Photos of all of the properties are featured on the club's Facebook page. To view the winners, readers may search for "Parkesburg Lions Club" on Facebook.

McKenna said that since 2020 was such a challenging year, the club was especially appreciative of those who decorated this year. "Thank you to all who (went) to the trouble of decorating," she said. "It really does add a festive feel to the area and is much appreciated."

The Lions Club, a community service organization, is currently seeking new members. Those interested in joining or learning more about the club are invited to stop by a club meeting. Meetings are held on the second and fourth Thursdays of each month at 6:30 p.m. at the Parkesburg Baptist Church, 103 West St., Parkesburg. Meetings may be held via Zoom depending on current COVID regulations.
