Students Advance To Spelling Bee Finals

The WITF Central PA Spelling Bee recently invited fourth- to eighth-grade students from 11 counties to demonstrate their spelling knowledge as they attempt to make their way to the Scripps National Spelling Bee. Out of over 130 semifinalist spellers, three students from Hempfield School District qualified to move on to the finals. They are Elijah Colon, Mountville Elementary School, grade six; Carter Guengerich, Centerville Middle School, grade eight; and Bryan Martinez-Nevarez, Farmdale Elementary School, grade four.

These students will compete in the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee on Saturday, Feb. 27, an oral spelldown which will then be broadcast on WITF TV. The winner of the WITF Grand Championship Spelling Bee qualifies to compete in the Scripps National Spelling Bee.
