Veritas Academy Slates "As You Like It"

The seventh- through 12th-grade students of Veritas Academy will present Shakespeare's comedy "As You Like It" on Saturday, April 24, at the bandshell in Lititz Springs Park, located on Broad Street. There will be two performances, one at 10 a.m. and one at 2 p.m., with a free, one-hour concert by the Veritas Chamber Orchestra between the performances at noon.

"As You Like It" tells the story of Rosalind, a heroine fleeing persecution, and Orlando, with whom she shares a mutual affection and who has been banished to the same forest as she. Rosalind must disguise herself as a man for her own protection as she hides in the forest, creating ample opportunities for mishaps along the way. The play contains some of Shakespeare's most famous lines, including the speech beginning "All the world's a stage, and all the men and women merely players."

Veritas' production sets the classic story during the French Revolution. It also incorporates some music, including songs from "Les Miserables."

Veritas senior Laura Cochran, who plays Rosalind, noted that the play not only explores romantic relationships, but also includes other relationships, such as friendships and familial relationships. Co-starring alongside Laura is junior Johnny Adkins, who plays Orlando.

Tickets for the play performances are available for purchase at http://www.veritasacademy.com/spring-play.
