About 375 students are expected to graduate from Penn Manor High School this year. The commencement ceremony will take place at Millersville University's Biemesderfer Stadium, 45 Pucillo Drive, Millersville, on Thursday, June 3. The event will begin at 7 p.m., and the stadium will open at 6 p.m.

Penn Manor High School senior class officer Delaney Reitnauer lives in Millersville and is the daughter of Christina and Mark Reitnauer. After high school, Delaney will attend Delaware State University to study elementary education and general psychology. While enrolled, she plans to join the university's bowling team. In an interview with the Advertiser, Delaney reflected on her time as a senior.

Advertiser: What was the most challenging part of your senior year?

Delaney: I think the most challenging part of being a senior this year was changing from being hybrid, then all virtual, then all in person, then all virtual, hybrid again, and finally all back. It was just a lot to be changing from one type to another. I think the other most challenging part was accepting that this year was not going to be anything that we all imagined our senior year would be.

Advertiser: How did you get through it?

Delaney: I was very fortunate to have amazing teachers this year, which helped me get through the year. All my teachers were very open with communication and understanding when all the changes of this year happened. They were so considerate and caring for the situation that was thrown at us this year. They always tried to make this year the best it could be. I also had a few core friends that got me through this year, and I love them for it.

Advertiser: Are there any moments you think you will remember for the rest of your life?

Delaney: I think this year in total will always be remembered, but there are a few key moments this year that I will remember. One, it's not special at all, but one day in the fall, was sitting in my car looking out of the parking deck before school just thinking how crazy this year has been. I had the windows open, so I heard the construction work of the new school, and I was watching kids come filing into the school with their masks on. It was just a moment like, "wow this year is going to be a different one and not one I imagined."

Advertiser: Is there anything you want to tell the Class of 2021?

Delaney: I would like to just tell the senior class to just live every moment because obviously life changes any minute. We weren't all expecting to be in a global pandemic during our junior and senior years of high school. Do your best in school or at your job, hang out with your friends and family, and just enjoy life.

Advertiser: If you had the chance to give a message to yourself when you were younger, what would it be?

Delaney: I think a message to my younger self would be that life is going to change and you must roll with the punches. It is going to get a lot harder than you think, but you'll become stronger than you thought you were. Keep the people you love close and keep going.
