Tales And Tails And Chicken Barbecues

Yard Sale Day in Strasburg will be held on Saturday, June 5, so to serve the crowds that will be out and about, the Strasburg-Heisler Library will host its annual chicken barbecue fundraiser at the Strasburg Jaycee Park, 218-B Miller St., that day. It will be a drive-through experience. Freshly grilled chicken and accompanying sides will be available from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. or until sold out. Tickets will not be presold. Chicken and meals will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.

"Without the community support, we wouldn't be able to do all that we do," stated library executive director Kristin Fernitz. "We're a small library, but we stay busy. We get a lot of customers at the barbecue, which shows that the community cares, and that means a lot to us."

The Summer Reading Program will launch on June 5 as well. This year's theme will be "Tales and Tails." An online system through Beanstack has been created for participants to record their reading progress to earn virtual badges and collect real prizes. Paper logs will no longer be used. Presentations will be held either inside or outside, with Jeremy Miller, Phredd, reptile guy Jesse Rothacker, comedian Jeff Boyer, and magician Ran D'Shine slated to appear. Throughout the month of June, the library will sell tickets for a chance to win cash prizes up to $100. For more information, contact Fernitz at kfernitz@strasburglibrary.org or 717-687-8969.
