Gretna Music Plans Jazz Concert

Gretna Music's 2021 season will kick off on Sunday, June 20, with concerts by the Kenny Barron Trio at 3 and 7:30 p.m. at the Mount Gretna Playhouse, 200 Pennsylvania Ave., Mount Gretna.

Pennsylvania native Kenny Barron played with jazz greats like Dizzy Gillespie and James Moody before becoming a jazz legend himself. He has received nine Grammy nominations and released more than 40 albums, and he was honored by the National Endowment for the Arts as a 2010 Jazz Master.

On June 20, Barron will be joined by bassist Kiyoshi Kitagawa and drummer Jonathan Blake for his Gretna Music debut.

The performance is the first of three summer jazz concerts in series called Gretna Grooves, presented in partnership with Central PA Friends of Jazz. The series also includes performances by jazz vocalist Jazzmeia Horn on Saturday, July 10, and Tuba Skinny on Friday, Aug. 13. Susquehanna Folk Music Society is also a partner for the August concert.
