Susquehanna Chorale Invites Singers To Audition

The nationally acclaimed Susquehanna Chorale invites people of all ages to submit an audition video for its 2021-22 season. Interested adults, those age 18 and older, are welcome to audition for the adult chamber ensemble; there are openings for all voice parts. In addition, children and youths may audition for the Children's, Youth, and Young Women's educational choirs.

The deadline for all submissions is Friday, June 25; late entries for the Children's, Youth, and Young Women's educational choirs will be accepted by appointment. For information on creating an audition video and to download the audition form, go to http://www.susquehannachorale.org and click on the Auditions tab. Interested readers may also contact the Susquehanna Chorale at 717-533-7859 or sc@susquehannachorale.org.

The Susquehanna Chorale, founded in 1981 by conductor Linda L. Tedford, is a 38-voice adult chamber ensemble based in central Pennsylvania. Singers must have previous choral experience and be dedicated to choral singing. Rehearsals are held weekly on Monday evenings from September to early May.

The chorale has received critical acclaim for its work, including the Margaret Hillis Achievement Award for Excellence, the highest award given by the national choral association Chorus America. Most recently, the chorale tied for second place in the Community Chorus division of the 2020 American Prize competitions.

In addition, the chorale is planning its third international performance tour for July 2022. Destinations are Krakow and Vienna. There is still room on the tour for singers who wish to attend.

As members of the chorale's educational choirs, students are taught sight singing, vocal technique, and expressivity through a challenging repertoire representing a variety of musical eras and styles. Participating students represent 40 area public and private schools as well as homeschool programs.

The Children's Chorale is composed of students in fourth through eighth grades. The Youth Chorale consists of students from the ninth grade through freshman year of college, and the Young Women's Chorale includes women from the same age group.

Rehearsals are held weekly on Tuesday evenings in Camp Hill from late August to November.

The season culminates in the annual Youth Choral Festival in November at Messiah University in Mechanicsburg. The intergenerational event features performances by the more than 200 voices of the Children's, Youth, and Young Women's chorales, as well as the Susquehanna Chorale.

The Susquehanna Chorale is funded in part by the Cultural Enrichment Fund, the capital region's united arts fund, and the Pennsylvania Council on the Arts. For details, including a performance schedule, visit the previously mentioned website.
