Sierra Club To Introduce Venture

The Sierra Club - Lancaster Group invites the public to a free Zoom presentation that will introduce "Ready for 100 - Lancaster," the local venture that corresponds to the national Sierra Club's Ready for 100 Percent Renewable Energy Campaign. The online talk is set for 7 p.m. on Wednesday, June 30.

Topics of the presentation will include information about the Ready for 100 Percent Renewable Energy Campaign, how it has worked in other parts of Pennsylvania, and how volunteers in Lancaster County can organize to set goals, make plans and take action to help the county's municipalities shift toward 100% renewable energy. The speaker will be Jim Wylie, the Sierra Club's Pennsylvania Chapter chair.

The thrust of the Lancaster campaign would be to encourage boards of supervisors, borough councils, and other groups governing municipalities to pass resolutions that set renewable energy goals and make a commitment to drafting transition plans that, in the process, include all stakeholders. The program would need a few volunteers who are interested in helping to facilitate a discussion with other volunteers in the area.

Wylie has mentored Ready for 100 teams in the greater Philadelphia region since 2016, resulting in more than 35 resolutions being passed by boroughs and townships, as well as Philadelphia, to transition community-wide to 100% renewable sources of electricity by 2035 and renewable energy sources for heat and transportation by 2050.
