Former Solanco student-athletes Anna Cooney and Ally McDowell are finding success at the next level. The juniors both attend Widener University and are nursing majors.

Cooney, who holds the shot put record at Solanco (43.5) and who finished third in Districts as a senior, is an All-American in the shot put at Widener. She placed fifth in the NCAA Division 3 Outdoor Track and Field Championships in Greensboro, NC on May 29, exceeding her ninth seed position. Her throw of 14.24 meters at the NCAA Championships was a personal best.

Cooney, who also qualified for the NCAA Championships in the hammer throw, is a Middle Atlantic Conference champ in the shot put.

McDowell, a former softball standout at Solanco, hit .278 this season at Widener with seven RBIs. She had an eight game hitting streak from March 27 through April 9.

A Second Team All-Conference selection in 2019, McDowell is a .320 career hitter with 37 RBIs and a .367 on-base percentage.
