Team Super Sawyer has announced that its 2021 Adventure Week will take place from Thursday to Wednesday, July 1 to 7. Proceeds will go toward medical research, technological advancements, and the expertise of doctors and others involved in working toward the goal of eliminating congenital heart defects.

The team is named in honor of Sawyer Fridy, who was born on April 28, 2016, at Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center with a heart defect called hypoplastic left heart syndrome (HLHS), meaning the left side of his heart did not form correctly. To correct this issue, he has had seven heart surgeries, which involved inserting plastic tubing to allow blood to move from the right side to the left side of his heart. He also required a pacemaker to regulate his heartbeat.

Sawyer loves going on adventures, such as visiting the beach, watching birds, camping, and riding a four-wheeler. During Adventure Week, participants are encouraged to go on their own adventures and take and submit photos to earn points. Prizes will be awarded, including a fire pit, a hiking backpack and accessories, a battery-powered children's riding toy and a campfire social package.

One picture may be submitted for each adventure, and there is no limit to the number of adventures participants take. Participants should provide the names and ages of all people in their photos and send the photos to Gail at the aforementioned email address or phone number. They may also post photos on Facebook and tag Gail. Unless requested otherwise, photos will be shared on Gail's Facebook page.

Team Super Sawyer sponsors and participates in fundraising events throughout the year. The team will walk in the annual Hershey Congenital Heart Walk for the fifth year on Sunday, Aug. 1. This year's event will be held at the Carousel Pavilion on City Island, Harrisburg, from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. There is no registration fee.
