Brickerville Church Plans Picnic

The community is invited to attend Brickerville United Lutheran Church's old-fashioned picnic on Saturday, July 3, from 3:30 to 8 p.m. The picnic will take place at the church's shaded grove, located at 340 E. 28th Division Highway, Lititz. This year's theme is "A Concert in the Park," and the event will honor all veterans and active-duty military members.

The Ringgold Band of Reading, now in its 169th year, will provide entertainment. Starting at 5 p.m., the band will perform three sets, with the outer two being modeled after the traditional format of a concert in the park. Gustav Holst's First Suite in E-flat and a 19th-century overture will be featured. The band will also play music from Broadway and the movies, vocal solos, marches, and music by Benny Goodman and Jimmy Webb.

The middle set, which will begin shortly after 6 p.m., will have a patriotic theme. It will feature the music of John Philip Sousa, music from the Civil War, and a medley honoring the armed services. Audience members can share requests for marches with a band member before the concert or during one of the breaks.

Food will be available for purchase. The menu will include the church's signature chicken corn soup, barbecue, fresh fruit salad, garden salads with chicken, and homemade desserts. Hot dogs and hamburgers will be provided by the Baron Stiegel Lions Club.

The picnic will be held rain or shine. Current CDC guidelines for outdoor events will be followed. Free parking will be available, and donations will be accepted at the gate to help offset entertainment costs. Attendees are encouraged to bring lawn chairs or blankets for seating during performances at the outdoor pavilion.
