Southern End To Celebrate National Night Out

Every year on the first Tuesday of the month of August, National Night Out (NNO) is celebrated across the U.S. NNO is an annual campaign that aims to promote relationships between the community and the police to make neighborhoods safer places to live. On Tuesday, Aug. 3, Providence Township will celebrate its third annual NNO. The event will take place at the maintenance building behind the Providence Township Building, 200 Mount Airy Road, Providence, from 6 to 8 p.m.

"People should attend the event because it's educational," said zoning officer Heidi Martinez. "People don't get to meet with firefighters and police under normal circumstances, so this event is for the officers and firefighters to get to know their community and vice versa. It's nice to have this interaction and see the services of the nonprofits."

Courtesy of Herr's Potato Chips and several local businesses, there will be free food and beverages for the public. Nonprofit organizations, such as Solid Rock Youth Ministries, will set up display tables where the public can learn about the agencies and services provided. Music will be provided by a DJ, and a bounce house will be available. Representatives from the fire companies and police departments that serve Providence Township will attend with their equipment. The Keystone Wildfire Crew and Lancaster EMS will also be in attendance. The public will also have the opportunity to participate in a giveaway.
