Church Volunteers Take Part In Serve Day

"We want to take our faith out beyond the walls of the church," said Sally Englerth, one of the volunteers from Freedom Life Church who participated in a day of community service locally as part of the nationwide observance of Serve Day on July 10.

According to http://www.serveday.com, the day provides churches across the world with opportunities to serve their local communities and share the love of God through practical acts of kindness. It is based on Mark 10:45, which reads, "For even the Son of Man came not to be served but to serve others and to give his life as a ransom for many."

Volunteer Larry Fuller affirmed, "We want to serve the Lord and serve the community."

Freedom Life currently has two locations, the main campus in Christiana and another campus in Centre County. Volunteers from both campuses took part in the projects.

In Chester County, volunteers partnered with Good Works to assist with an ongoing construction project in Coatesville. Lancaster County volunteers took part in a cleanup at Muddy Run Park, where they cleared trails by cutting branches, moving rocks and pulling weeds and picked up trash on the site's disc golf course and campground.

Centre County campus volunteers worked in Unionville Park painting the gazebo and pavilion and pulling weeds.

Main campus volunteers worked at Octorara Junior-Senior High School in Atglen, where they cleaned up the school's greenhouse. Volunteers also reorganized a storage space in the school.

"We did weeding around the greenhouse, and (other volunteers) painted the dugout," said Fuller, explaining that the school provided the church with a list of jobs that needed to be completed.

The greenhouse at the school, which is maintained by the Octorara FFA, includes raised bed gardens where various vegetables and fruits are grown and donated to the Octorara Area Food Cupboard.

At Freedom Life's main campus, 447 Noble Road, Christiana, services are held on Sundays at 9 and 11 a.m. The Centre County campus meets on Sundays at 10 a.m. at 113 Sunset Acres, Bellefonte. An online campus offers livestreamed services on Sundays at 9 and 11 a.m. on YouTube, on Facebook and at https://online.freedom.life.
