Retired Biology Professor To Present Slideshow

The Millersville Area Historical Society (MAHS) will resume its in-person meetings with a slideshow talk on "The Social Challenge of Global Warming" at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Aug. 14, at Millersville's Municipal Center, 100 Municipal Drive. The event is free and open to the public. Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and lock at 9:15 a.m. Anyone who has not been vaccinated against COVID-19 is asked to wear a mask.

The speaker will be Jean Geary Boal, Millersville University (MU) professor of biology emerita. Her presentation will offer a concise, non-technical explanation of the physical science behind global warming, serve as an introduction to some of the complex biological consequences of this warming, and provide ways to understand the social responses that are unfolding as a result of it. She will conclude the address with a variety of reasons for hope and discuss a number of constructive actions that can be taken by all. A question-and-answer session will follow.

Boal retired from MU in 2018. She earned a Ph.D. in ecology from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill, and a Bachelor of Science in biology from Stanford University.

Although there is no admission charge, donations will be accepted. For more information, call Phil Gerber at 717-872-8837 before 5 p.m. or email him at pge8507@aol.com.
