Belmont Theatre Posts Upcoming Season

The Belmont Theatre, located in York, has reopened its doors after being closed since March 2020, and the theater has announced its 89th season.

The Belmont will open its first live play since the pandemic on Friday, Sept. 17. "The Miracle Worker" was about to open before the pandemic caused its postponement.

The schedule for the 2021-22 season is as follows. Unless otherwise noted, events will take place on two weekends - once on Friday to Sunday and once on Thursday to Sunday.

On the Main Stage, the Belmont will present Disney's "Beauty and the Beast" on Fridays to Sundays, Nov. 19 to 21 and 26 to 28; concerts by the Unforgettable Big Band on Friday to Sunday, Dec. 10 to 12; a blockbuster musical to be announced in November on Feb. 11 to 13 and 17 to 20, 2022; "The Bar Stools," a York County lawyers' production, on Thursday to Saturday, April 7 to 9; and "Hello, Dolly!" on June 10 to 12 and 16 to 19.

Productions in the Grumbacher Studio will be "The Miracle Worker" on Sept. 17 to 19 and 23 to 26; "Blithe Spirit," a comedy, on Oct. 22 to 24 and 28 to 31; the comedy "Arsenic and Old Lace" on Jan. 7 to 9 and 13 to 16, 2022; "Now and Then," a play, on March 18 to 20 and 24 to 27; the dramedy "Steel Magnolias" on April 22 to 24 and April 28 to May 1; and the dramedy "The Elephant Man" on Aug. 5 to 7 and 11 to 14.

The staff has installed touchless soap dispensers and a bi-polar ionization system and technology for airborne virus mitigation. Due to the rising cost of materials, the theater is seeking donations of wood and building materials, fabrics and trims, and gift cards to lumber or fabric and craft stores for use when building sets and making costumes for the new season.
