Exercise Program Planned

St. Matthew Lutheran Church, 700 Pleasure Road, Lancaster, and Grandview Church, 888 Pleasure Road, Lancaster, will resume weekly Better Bones Better Balance classes on Tuesday, Sept. 14, from noon to 1 p.m. Classes take place at St. Matthew and at Grandview in alternating months; the September classes will be held at St. Matthew.

The classes are open to the public and will be taught by Tim Kauffman, a physical therapist in Lancaster, and Beth Kauffman, a physical therapist and board-certified geriatric clinical specialist. The focus of this exercise program is to apply research-based clinical science to improve bone health and to prevent falls. In addition to the social and exercise components, questions and discussion are encouraged. Techniques to reduce injuries from a fall are taught, and handouts are offered. The program was started in 2009 at Kauffman Physical Therapy and expanded to the churches in 2018.

A donation is suggested, and the proceeds will go to the churches to support their missions and operations. In the past, donations from the class were made to the International Red Cross Committee and VisionCorps in Lancaster, among other community services.

The classes will adhere to the COVID policies of each church, which include masks and social distancing. Proof of COVID vaccination is required.
