Book It To The Upcoming Library Sale

Dr. Seuss once wrote, "The more you read, the more things you know. The more that you learn, the more places you'll go." There are so many benefits to reading. It can help us discover the world, develop our imagination and creativity, improve our vocabulary and communication skills, and more.

After postponing three times, the Lancaster Public Library Mountville Branch will hold its fall book sale. The three-day sale will take place at the Mountville Church of the Brethren, 60 Clay St.,on Thursday, Sept. 23, from 2 to 6 p.m.; Friday, Sept. 24, from 10 a.m. to 7 p.m.; and Saturday, Sept. 25, from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. Parking will be free, and discounts will start at noon on Sept. 25.

The book sale will be sponsored by the Friends of the Mountville Branch Library. The nonprofit organization was incorporated in 1976 with the goal of supporting the library through library programming, fundraising, and raising awareness of the library's importance in the community. This will be the group's first book sale since 2019.

"We were unable to have it last year due to COVID-19, so we have a lot of books, CDs, DVDs, and board games," said Karen Denlinger, president of the Friends group. Denlinger has been volunteering at the library since 2010 - the year after she retired from teaching.

Proceeds from the book sale will benefit the Mountville Branch Library. Cash, checks, and all major credit cards will be accepted. Masks will be required inside the church.

"I'm hoping everyone will come out, stock up on books for the winter, and support the library because the library does so much for the community," stated Denlinger.

Denlinger mentioned that the Friends group would be unable to host the book sale without the help of Mertz's Moving and Scout Troops 90B, 90G, 349B, and 349G.
