Public Invited To Donate Winter Gear For Those In Need

The community is invited to donate new and gently used winter outerwear, including coats and jackets, as well as boots, mittens, gloves, jackets, hats and scarves, as part of the annual Operation Warm Coat Drive sponsored by Parkesburg Churches Community Outreach (PCCO).

Items may be dropped off at IMPACT Church, 101 E. First Ave., Parkesburg, now through Sunday, Oct. 10, or at the Keystone Valley Fire Department (KVFD), 329 W. First Ave., Parkesburg, anytime until Tuesday, Oct. 5. Additionally, KVFD has offered to pick up donations. For more information, contact EMSsupervisor@kvf8.com.

Other collection sites in Parkesburg include the Parkesburg Free Library, 105 West St., and Church of the Ascension, 406 Second Ave.

Donated items will be given out at IMPACT Church on Saturday, Oct. 16, from 9 a.m. until noon. Anyone in the community is invite to visit the church that day to pick up the winter wear free of charge.

Pastor Mike Bailey explained that those who attend the giveaway do not have to provide proof of residency or income. "A lot of times they don't bring the whole family. Mom may have five kids and she can come and take five jackets," he said.

IMPACT Church volunteers will sort and display the items, as well as serve as greeters. "Everything will be in the worship center. We will have racks of coats sorted by sizes," Bailey said.

He reported that nearly 300 coats were given out at the church in 2020. Items that were not distributed were given to local charities.
