The Return Of Grace Church's Community Day

Although its origins are unknown, trick-or-treating was established in American popular culture in the early to mid-1900s. In 1951, the act was depicted in the Peanuts comic strip. The following year, Disney released its first "Trick or Treat" cartoon, which featured Donald Duck and his nephews, Huey, Dewey, and Louie. Many kids look forward to Halloween because it is the time for dressing up in a cool, creative costume and going from door to door collecting candy. Another way to celebrate Halloween is attending a Trunk or Treat.

On Saturday, Oct. 30, Grace Church Lancaster will host its fifth annual Fall Community Day Car Show and Trunk or Treat. The event will take place at the church, 911 Rohrerstown Road, Lancaster, from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Admission, parking, and car show registration will be free. There will be games, face painting, music, a bounce house, and a display of vehicles from the local fire company, as well as the Police K-9 Unit. Attendees are welcome to dress in costume and can collect candy by participating in the games. Chili, hot dogs, soups, baked goods, hot apple cider, and drinks will be available for purchase, with the proceeds benefiting the youth group.

Pastor Scott Becker will serve as the DJ at the event. "I love doing that part; it's so much fun," he said. "I play classics from across different decades and fun Halloween songs."

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, Grace Church Lancaster was unable to host a Community Day event last year. However, the church used that time to build a brand-new pavilion, which it will make use of at this year's event.

Registration for the car show will open at 9:30 a.m. and close at 12:30 p.m. Judging will occur at 1 p.m. and the award ceremony will take place at 1:30 p.m. Plaques will be awarded to the top three vehicles based on the votes of attendees. Those who would like to preregister their vehicle can do so at http://www.gracelanc.org.

"It's fun for everybody," stated Becker. "It's a great day to get out, have food, see classic cars, play games, and get candy."
