Students Plan Veterans Day Fundraiser Walk

York College students who are veterans and active-duty military members enrolled in a first-year seminar are coordinating a Sunday, Nov. 14, ruck to commemorate Veterans Day. Proceeds from the event, which will begin at noon at the college's Grumbacher Sport and Fitness Center, will be donated to the local nonprofit For the Love of a Veteran. The event is open to the public.

A ruck is walking or running with a weighted backpack, explained Robyn Maitoza, associate professor of human services and teacher of the students' course Boot Camp YCP Style. Participants will leave from the Grumbacher Center, 889 S. Richland Ave., York, and walk either a 5K or 10K route on the rail trail. They may bring a weighted pack to wear as they walk. Water and snacks will be provided, and attendees may enter giveaway drawings.

Registration is available by searching for "YCP Veterans Day Ruck" at http://www.eventbrite.com. There is a fee for those who register prior to the event, with a higher fee for those who register on the day of the walk. T-shirts will be given to the first 50 registrants.
