Lions Club Lists Parade Winners, Announces Activities

The Parkesburg Lions Club recently announced the results of the 2021 Halloween parade that it sponsored on Oct. 30.

In the fire company category, first place went to Christiana Fire Company and second place went to the Keystone Valley Fire Department of Parkesburg.

Russell's Baton won first place in the performance groups category.

In the costumes category, adult winners - those age 16 and up - were Jeannette Soley, with a Day of the Dead Butterfly costume, first place, and Anna Baker, dressed as a witch, second place. Child costume winners, those age 15 and under, were Timothy Dean, Jaws, first place; Rashad London, Pennywise, second place; and Marissa Boyd, a tree, third place.

Winners in the category of groups and floats were Mull's Electric, "Family Halloween Party," first place; Murder Time Trio, Three Demons, second place; Girl Scout Troop 432, a rainbow, and L&R Towing, third place. Best overall group/float winners were Girl Scout Troops 4642 and 4673, with a "Spooktacular" theme.

Following the parade was the first Trunk or Treat sponsored by the Parkesburg Lions. More than 400 costumed children went trick-or-treating at the nine decorated trunks. The Austin family's vehicle was voted Best Trunk and was given an award.

The Parkesburg Halloween festivities ended with fireworks in Minch Park, which were sponsored by the Parkesburg Special Events Committee.

The Lions Club is continuing its collections for local organizations. It held a food drive for Octorara Area Food Cupboard at Dutch-Way Farm Market in Gap on Nov. 13.

It also collects donations of used eyeglasses. Donation drop boxes can be found at various locations in Parkesburg, including eye doctors' offices; at the Parkesburg Walmart, 100 Commons Drive; and Parkesburg Library, 105 West St.

The club is also accepting donations of plastic at Fulton Bank, 100 W. First Ave., Parkesburg, and the Parkesburg Library. Plastic items that can be donated include plastic grocery bags, newspaper sleeves, empty ice bags and bread bags and the plastic that is used to wrap a case of bottled water.

The club announced that it will once again present a holiday decorating contest. Judging will take place on Friday, Dec. 17. Those who would like to participate are asked to have their lights turned on by 5 p.m. First-, second- and third-place winners will receive prizes, and they will have a marker placed in their yards indicating their win. The Parkesburg Lions Club is always looking for new members who are willing to help and support the community. The club meets on the second and fourth Thursdays of the month at 6:30 p.m. at the Parkesburg Baptist Church, 103 West St., Parkesburg.
