Concert To Feature Celtic Christmas Music

Local Scots-Irish trio Fire in the Glen will perform Celtic Christmas music at three churches in the Hempfield area this December. The performances will take place on Saturday, Dec. 11, from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at St. Leo the Great Catholic Church, 2427 Marietta Ave., Lancaster; Sunday, Dec. 12, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. at Wayside Presbyterian Church, 600 Stony Battery Road, Landisville; and Sunday, Dec. 19, from 3 to 4 p.m. at St. Edward's Episcopal Church, 2453 Harrisburg Pike, Lancaster. The concert at Wayside will also be streamed at http://www.waysidepc.org and on Wayside's Facebook page.

Fire in the Glen consists of Amanda Wells on lead vocals and guitar; Rod Nevin on lead vocals, Scottish smallpipes, pennywhistles and ukulele; and Tom Knapp on fiddle, bodhran - the Irish hand drum - and backing vocals. The group's Celtic Christmas performance will offer a selection of well-known Christmas music; additional holiday music from the Irish, Scottish and English traditions; and traditional Irish and Scottish songs and tunes that might be played at Christmas gatherings throughout the British Isles.
