Librarian Speaks At College

Milanof-Schock Library's Miss Jan was a guest speaker for assistant professor Kathryn Caprino's PK-12 New Literacies class at Elizabethtown College on Nov. 16.

Jan's focus was on prekindergarten through fourth-grade read-aloud storybooks, including how to best present them to children and which types of books and stories would be appropriate for that age group. The 12 college students were asked to interact with the stories Miss Jan read and got a taste of Miss Jan in action as she performed a narration of "Grumpy Bird" by Jeremy Tankard and one other picture book. There was also a question-and-answer time.

Miss Jan plans to return in the spring to share more of her knowledge and expertise in reading to young children.

Miss Jan offers story times at Milanof-Schock Library, 1184 Anderson Ferry Road, Mount Joy, weekly on Wednesdays and Thursdays at 10:30 a.m. The program is free, but preregistration is required by visiting http://www.mslibrary.org or calling 717-653-1510.
