Architect To Speak At MAHS Meeting

The Millersville Area Historical Society (MAHS) invites the public to a presentation on architect James H. Warner when it meets at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Feb. 12, in Millersville's Municipal Center, 100 Municipal Drive.

The speaker, local architect Gregory J. Scott, will explore the work and controversial life of Warner, who, at age 24, came to Lancaster from England and enjoyed acclaim for over a decade before suddenly disappearing. Warner designed many of Lancaster's notable buildings, including Central Market, the Hamilton Club, the historic Millersville University Library, Franklin & Marshall College's gymnasium, St. John's Lutheran and Christ Lutheran churches, South Duke Street and South Mulberry Street schools, and several mansions. A question-and-answer session will conclude the presentation.

Scott, a member of the American Institute of Architects' College of Fellows, has more than four decades of experience in innovation and design. He has lectured on the subjects at state, national and international conferences, as well as written about them in trade journals. The Penn State University graduate also writes an architectural design column for a local newspaper.

Doors will open at 8:30 a.m. and lock at 9:15 a.m. MAHS asks that masks be worn by all attendees.

Admission is free, but donations are welcomed. For more information, contact Phil Gerber at 717-872-8837 before 5 p.m. or at pge8507@aol.com.
