On Saturday, Feb. 26, the Hempfield High School girls' lacrosse team will host its first gift card bingo fundraiser in the cafeteria of the high school, 200 Stanley Ave., Landisville. Doors will open at 9:15 a.m., and at least 10 games of bingo will be played from 10 a.m. to noon. Food and drinks will be available for purchase, and attendees can participate in giveaways. Some of the giveaway items donated by businesses include Penn State memorabilia, gift certificates, Hershey Bears hockey tickets, bowling passes, pottery items, drink sets, and a round of golf.

"This event is a good way to meet the other parents and families on the team and a good way to get to know the girls because we will be working it," said freshman Aeryn Hartley.

"We've been practicing our bingo announcing voices," commented senior Kelsea Dague. "What I love about this sport is getting to be a part of the team and getting to know everyone from freshman to senior year. It really is like a family."

All of the proceeds from the fundraiser will go to the girls' lacrosse program to pay for uniforms, team bonding exercises, offseason training, turf rental, and more. The team's first game is scheduled for Saturday, March 26, against Wilson High School.

"We have a really great team this year," stated head coach Claudia Ovchinnikoff. "We have some girls that have stepped up (and) improved immensely from last year, and we have 14 seniors in the program, so they will serve as good examples for the underclassmen to see how hard they're working and what it takes to have a successful season."
