Dodd To Present Songs, Stories Of Canal Days

The Solanco Historical Society will hold its next program on Saturday, Feb. 19, at 1:30 p.m. at the society's archives building, located across from the Robert Fulton Birthplace at 1932 Robert Fulton Highway (Route 222), Quarryville.

Matthew Dodd will present "Songs and Stories of Old Canal Days." Dressed in period clothing, Dodd will share what life was like for the men, women and children who ran the boats and tended the mules on the old canals, as well as for the lock tenders, who served from dawn to dawn at the canal locks.

Dodd will perform a variety of songs from the time period as well as stories that put the songs in the context of the times. Dodd sings and plays the acoustic guitar, harmonica, banjo and mandolin.

The program is free and open to the public.
