Quarryville Library's Go-FORE Golf Is Tee-Rific

I've lived in Lancaster County my entire life, but ever since I started my position as feature writer for the Solanco Advertiser, I have been blown away by the number of events, organizations, and locations that I had never even heard of. I attended the Solanco Fair for the first time, visited the Southern End Community Association (SECA), took a tour of Gnome Countryside (which I highly recommend), and, more recently, played a game of miniature golf inside the Quarryville Library Center. I mean, how many people can say they've played putt-putt in a library?

Sponsored by Barnsley Academy and J Dog Junk Removal and Hauling, the 11th annual Go-FORE Golf Miniature Golf Fundraiser returned to the Quarryville Library Center on Feb. 12. Uniquely designed for the library by Solanco High School technology students in 2008, 16 miniature golf greens of varying levels of difficulty were set up throughout the library. Some hugged the sides of bookshelves while others were tucked away in corners. Some of the holes were sponsored and decorated by local businesses, which was super neat.

People of all ages came out to enjoy a day of fun and support the library at the same time. I saw little kids pick on their parents for their lack of golf skills, grandparents cheer on their grandchildren, and teenagers scream with excitement after getting a hole-in-one. There was also a creative balloon artist and a talented face painter. After getting through the 16-hole course, each person had the chance to win a couple of Gopher Dollars by getting a hole-in-one on the 17th hole. The Gopher Dollars were redeemable at the 17th Hole Cafe. I don't mean to toot my own horn, but I got a hole-in-one.

Before ordering food from the 17th Hole Cafe, which was located in the library's C.X. Carlson Cultural Room, I had my score card checked to see if I had the best score in my age category. Although I didn't win a prize, I still had an amazing time. Operated by the Friends of the Quarryville Library, the cafe offered sandwiches, soups, hot dogs, tater tots, baked goods, and more. I pretty much ordered one of everything because I knew the proceeds were going to the library.

So, when you or someone you know is looking for something fun to do in February next year, remember the Go-FORE Golf Miniature Golf Fundraiser. Who knows? You might win a prize!
